Athletes from the Setanta Triathlon club are set to sweep the tables at the Triathlon Ireland 2008 Awards ceremony in Portlaoise on February 28. The club is well represented in the winners’ enclosure at Junior, Men’s and Women’s categories for Sprint, Standard and Middle Distance events.
Aaron Conway, one of the youngest members, in only his second year of competition, finished second overall in the National Championships 16-19 year old Sprint.
Setanta stalwarts, Gerry and Johnny McCabe will each pick up two second place awards at standard and middle distance after a very competitive year.
Gerry missed out on first place in the middle distance events to Newry Triathlon member, Peter Savage in a year that saw them regularly swap positions at the business end of the leader board.
Liam Dolan secured a National Championships first place in the 25-29 age group.
But this year’s star is without doubt Mary Laverty who collects silver in the National Series along with silver in the National Championship. And to wrap it up, she also finished third overall female athlete for 2008, a fantastic achievement.
Setanta Triathlon club would like to offer its congratulations to all the prize winners.
The club caters for all ages and levels and new members are very welcome. For more details on joining Setanta Tri or competing in your first Triathlon visit www.setantatri.com
